Committee Volunteers

Thank you for your interest in serving as a volunteer at SHRM Hawaii.

To fulfill our two-fold mission of Serving the HR Professional and Advancing the HR Profession, SHRM Hawaii has created several standing committees:

CERTIFICATION

The Certification committee works to provide opportunities for new and continuing HR practitioners to expand their professional growth based on the SHRM Body of Competency and KnowledgeTM.  This committee coordinates the HR Basics class, subsequent two-part HR Essentials class, and the spring/fall SHRM Certification course. HR Essentials and SHRM Certification courses are certificate programs in partnership with the University of Hawai‘i Outreach Program.

COMMUNICATIONS & MARKETING

The Communications & Marketing committee is responsible for managing internal and external communications that promote the SHRM Hawai‘i brand. This committee manages annual sponsorship opportunities and partners with other standing committees to ensure timely distribution of information.

COMPLIANCE & NOMINATION

The Compliance & Nomination committee ensures that SHRM Hawaii and its Educational Foundations comply with applicable statutes, regulations, generally accepted accounting standards, and prudent business practices. This committee is also tasked with conducting nominations and elections in accordance with SHRM Hawaii bylaws and approved policies.

EMERGING PROFESSIONALS

The Emerging Professionals (EP) committee provides opportunities and builds community for the next generation of HR leaders. The EP committee focuses on HR professionals in the early stages of their career (1-3 years’ experience) promoting career growth, strengthening relationships through a mentorship program and creating opportunities for EPs to gather and discuss successes and challenges in their roles.

LEGISLATIVE AFFAIRS

The Legislative Affairs committee monitors and evaluates pending legislative and regulatory & legal actions at the federal, state and local levels. The committee presents reports and regular updates to the State Chapter Board  and Chapter members on developments affecting human resources management, and works closely with the Chapter’s lobbyist to inform elected and/or government officials of SHRM’s position on the issues.

MEMBERSHIP

The Membership committee leads the efforts in driving new membership and maintaining membership renewals for the State Chapter.  In partnership with SHRM National, the committee promotes the value of local membership and looks at ways to enhance this value through free webinars, discounted events, and scholarships for certification classes and the annual state conference.

STATE CONFERENCE

Help hundreds of Hawaii HR professionals create better workplaces for a better world by designing an engaging event where we learn from national and local thought-leaders;  network to support each other;  and end with a party.  Team up with other committee members to develop new skills you can apply at work to benefit your employer and yourself.

WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT

The goal of Workforce Development committee is to identify strategic industry and community partnerships that in some way impact the continued effectiveness of our State’s current and future workforce. Some of the projects this committee is currently working on includes the Human Resources Executive Leadership Program and Junior Achievement Hawai‘i partnership.

EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION

The SHRM Hawai‘i Educational Foundation is the charitable arm of SHRM Hawai‘i.  In its capacity as a 501(c)3, the Educational Foundation works across the island districts to provide educational and scholarship opportunities to SHRM Hawai‘i members. The four Foundation Districts – Kauai, Oahu, Maui, and Hawai‘i Island, each have a representative to help achieve this goal.

Each district has standing committees to support these efforts, including Programs, Professional Development, College Relations, and School-to-Work committees.  Please refer to the Educational Foundation page for more information.
