My Work Life Balance

Aloha!
Can you believe it is already February? The Holidays have come and gone and hopefully we remain on track with our New Year’s resolutions!
This year, my New Year’s resolution is to continue to find joy and peace in life…sounds a little easy to do? Right? For me, it is actually hard work! As HR Professionals, it is even more important to find a place to slow down to find joy and peace in a profession we love. Most of us are operating on ‘high octane’ 24/7. A recent study conducted by Workvivo found that 98% of us feel burnt out. We know what a challenge it is to juggle work/life balance.
If I am speaking to the choir and you are feeling overwhelmed, please consider:
- Commit to staying off the grid at night. I try my best to shut down my laptop and company cell phone by 6 pm.
- Join a club or take up a hobby. I’ve been trying to walk while at work (on my lunch break or between meetings). Vitamin D helps!
- Consciously plan rest breaks throughout the year. So far so good. Travel to Korea, Japan and Vegas have been scheduled.
- Look forward to life events. This year, I will be celebrating the birth of my first grandchild (parents have already settled on her name; Charli). When I think about the future, I am extremely excited to indulge in joy and peace with my grandbaby!
Continue to be safe and happy with joy and peace in 2023!
Sincerely,
Naomi Ahuna, SHRM-SCP
