2022, Year of the Water Tiger: A Year of Surprises and Bold Action

Posted on Feb. 3, 2022  /   0

Last month we welcomed 2022 and a new SHRM Hawaii Board, and this month we brought in the lunar new year, marking the start of the Year of the Black Water Tiger. The Tiger is the third animal in the Chinese zodiac and 2022 is going to be a year of quick changes and bold action.  There’s no better example of this than Korn Ferry, a leading international executive search firm, who recently told me they have never experienced such a high demand for qualified Human Resources Professionals, especially those with experience in all areas of Human Capital Management.

The Tiger is known for powerful energy, ferocity, courage, strength, integrity, and happiness in Chinese culture. The HR professional must have these same qualities in the workforce.  The C-suites, as well as the employees, look to us to be the Tiger, to ensure peace at all costs.  We make sure things are done in our own way and set a goal not only for ourselves but for others too.  And we make it happen! Even when we must be quick to take action, like the on and off again vaccine mandates.

2021 was all about hard work and discipline.  Prepare yourself for a considerably different situation in 2022 where things change on a dime.  It will be a time of intense emotions and big decisions. Water Tiger years are times of powerful change, resulting in intense excitement at home, work, and politics.

2022 The Year of the Water Tiger, will typically signify success to those who work very hard and follow their goals with confidence, persistence, and determination. We will need your help to fill these openings we have just in Hawaii alone in the Human Resources Profession (the last count, we had 177 openings according to Indeed).  Help all of us get involved and if you know someone that has an interest in Human Capital Management, encourage them to join the journey of our proud profession.

From the Chinese Five Element Stem-Branch calendar, the name of the 2022 Chinese Zodiac Year is Shui Lǎohǔ. Shui is Water and Lǎohǔ is Tiger.  2022 is expected to be a turbulent year marked by action and change. Surprising developments may create adversity and stress, so it is important to embrace calm and patient energy.

Thank you for being an important member of our SHRM chapter.  Get involved in a committee today, we need you! It can also bring unexpected blessings and turn dreams into reality. Get ready for the ride of your life!
