Free Stuff For Volunteers

There are many reasons to volunteer within an organization: education, networking, job promotion opportunities, etc. Even while meeting remotely our committees continue to connect and hold discussions that are valuable to them professionally. Just last week, our board held engaging discussions on how companies in Hawaii are managing the Great Resignation; the Vaccine mandates, and Attracting Talent.
But I promised you free stuff so let’s get on to my list of the great value our volunteers have been able to access early or given special consideration for because of their volunteer roles.
FREE /VALUABLE STUFF YOU CAN GET FOR VOLUNTEERING
- Like to travel? Learn at the national level? SHRM and SHRM Hawaii both earmark thousands of dollars for conference scholarships each year. Our volunteers are first in line to hear about upcoming opportunities. Additionally, some exclusive opportunities are made available to board members each year. SHRM and SHRM Hawaii will be sending five board members and covering expenses and registration to the 2022 SHRM national conference. SHRM also gives special consideration to volunteers who assist during the event. And all volunteer leaders receive a discounted rate, even if they register late. Want to join them? This year it’s being held in New Orleans, June 12-15.
- Or maybe you can’t travel that far, but still want to attend the state conference? The Oahu District of the SHRM Hawaii Educational Foundation annually offers 100% scholarships to our annual event. And the application weighs heavily on those who have volunteered within the chapter. Thanks to generous donations and program proceeds, this fund regularly covers registration for up to 8 people to the state conference.
- Want to get certified? In 2020 and 2021 SHRM Hawaii received multiple free certification testing opportunities from SHRM to use towards chapter volunteers earning their SHRM certifications.
- Already certified and looking to add training experience to your resume? We are currently looking for certified HR professionals to serve as instructors for our certification prep classes.
A highly regarded program, the SHRM certification curriculum, and training have worldwide recognition. - Are you an Executive interested in becoming a better leader? SHRM Hawaii Educational Foundation Districts of Hawaii island, Maui, and Oahu supported 6 applicants with partial scholarships to the inaugural cohort of the HR Executive Leadership Program, beginning this April.

That’s a hefty list, as you can see, with thousands of dollars in scholarships given away every year.
Where does this money come from? Much of our scholarship support is provided by your contributions when you pay to attend SHRM Hawaii programs. Additional support is received from companies with charitable programs who contribute to our 501c3, the SHRM Hawaii Educational Foundation, and donations from SHRM, the national organization.
