Aloha SHRM Hawaii Members,
August is upon us as we send our kids back to school, vote in the Primary Election, and welcome the start of football season! For HR professionals, it’s also time to review our mid-year progress and prepare for the fast-approaching new year with 2023 workforce planning, goal setting, and budgets.
The fall is also peppered with professional development opportunities that you can take advantage of. This includes HR Basics Plus, SHRM Certification Class, and the return of the SHRM Hawaii State Conference and Expo.
The soon-to-be-announced, HR Basics Plus, will feature our very own, John Knorek, director and attorney with Torkildson Katz along with Jill Chapman, SHRM-SCP, a Senior Performance Consultant with Insperity, an HR solutions provider. The redesigned format of this 4-part series in September will cover the basics of HR Law and include the latest HR trends – where we’ve been, where we are now, and what’s ahead.
Also in September, in partnership with the University of Hawaii Outreach College, we kick off our fall SHRM Certification Class. Classes will alternate between Wednesday evenings and Saturdays and go through November. If you are not a certified HR professional, I encourage you to devote the time necessary to attain certification and keep you and your organization more competitive in today’s economy. Earning your credentials makes you a recognized expert and leader in the HR field and equips you with the knowledge, skills, and competencies to remain relevant in this ever-evolving profession. Click here to register or learn more about SHRM Certification.
Last, but certainly not least, we are excited to welcome back the SHRM Hawaii State Conference and Expo. After a two-year hiatus, we will be back in person at the Hawaii Convention Center on Friday, October 14, 2022. Our keynote speaker is Valerie Grubb, who will share with us how to “Influence without Authority.” Our mega session HR legal update will feature attorney, Christine Belcaid from Dentons, paired with Lauraine Bifulco from Vantaggio HR. Be on the lookout for more information on our breakout sessions with subject matter experts from the EEOC and the US Department of Labor. For more information or to register, visit www.shrmhawaiiconference.com.
As we look forward with anticipation to the cooler weather of the fall, I hope you are able to take advantage of one or more of these opportunities to expand your HR knowledge, grow your skills, and network with colleagues.
